It can be universally applied to any pain. But her poem about her broken heart and how she’s healing doesn’t stop at just heart break. And it goes through how she is dealing with it, as you can imagine it will be hard for her, it is already hard for people who are not in her circumstance to get over a bad break up with someone they had loved and trusted before. She finally feels safe and protected with a man, but they end up breaking up. So, her finally being able to open up to a man is big. And her father is an alcoholic, having a short temper and taking it out on her, so you can imagine they don’t have the best father daughter relationship and also another example of not the best men she has had in her life. She was raped and she talks about how she feels gutted and empty, leaving a bad taste in her mouth. She had a very hard time trusting men, mentioned in her previous chapters. This particular poem does not have a name or title and is about her heart break and how she is getting over someone that she truly trusted. The healing obviously talks about her healing process and how she is handling everything. The poem I chose to write this rhetorical analysis about is found in the fourth and last part of her book, The healing. As you go through her poems and progress to the next chapters you can feel her pain and partly understand and sympathies with her. Rupi Kaur wrote this book filled with poems, and she split it into four parts: The hurting, The loving, The breaking, and The healing. So, in his English class when we we’re all asked to find a book to read for this term, I decided I’d go find a poem book at Target, and Milk and Honey was all the rave at the time. I never thought that poems could sound so good, have so much meaning, and stir up all these feelings. This unit that he taught opened me up to a whole other world.

We had to read all the poems and decide which one will win over all the others. He did a unit in March where he made a bracket for poems and gave us each a poem book. And let me tell you, he did live up to the hype, he was an amazing teacher and I am extremely grateful for him and grateful for my best friend who talked me into taking his English and Creative Writing class.

I wouldn’t have even taken the class if it was not for the teacher. I didn’t know that I liked to read poems until this same teacher taught a class called Creative Writing. I liked this because I don’t usually like to read but, I like to read poems. Our teacher had us read group books until the last term and then we got to read whatever book we wanted. I started reading this book in my senior year of high school in my English class.
